Overview
React is a JavaScript library for building user interfaces from small, reusable components. It is maintained by Meta and a large open-source community, and it powers everything from simple widgets to some of the most complex web applications in use today.
Teams choose React because the component model scales across large codebases and teams, the ecosystem covers almost every need and experienced developers are comparatively easy to hire. The flip side is that React leaves many decisions to you, from state management to data fetching, and that is where experience shows.

Server data in TanStack Query or framework loaders, minimal global state, and forms with React Hook Form and Zod.

For most new public-facing products we recommend Next.js, which adds routing, server rendering and sensible defaults on top of React. Plain React with Vite still makes sense for internal tools behind a login, or widgets embedded in other sites.
Yes. We upgrade incrementally: dependencies first, then class components and legacy patterns where they cause problems, keeping the app releasable throughout.
As little as possible. Most ‘global state’ is really server data, which TanStack Query or the framework handles better. For genuinely shared client state we use React context or a small library such as Zustand.
