Overview
Microsoft Fabric is an analytics platform that brings data engineering, data warehousing, real-time analytics and Power BI together around a single data lake called OneLake. Azure AI services add ready-made capabilities such as document intelligence, search, speech and translation, alongside access to OpenAI models in Azure.
Organisations already using Power BI and Microsoft 365 choose Fabric to reduce the number of separate data tools they run, and use Azure AI services to add intelligence without building models from scratch. Licensing and capacity planning matter, so we size the platform to the actual workload.

No. Power BI is part of Fabric. Fabric adds data engineering, warehousing and real-time analytics around it, so organisations can do more of their data work in one place.
Sometimes. Smaller capacities and the Power BI licences you may already have can be enough, but for modest needs a simpler setup is often more cost-effective. We compare the options honestly.
Azure AI services are task-specific capabilities such as document extraction, search, speech and translation. Azure OpenAI provides general-purpose language models. Many solutions use both: Document Intelligence to read a form, then a language model to summarise it.
